Tech CU Inducted Into San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame
Award Recognizes Significant Contributions to the Silicon Valley Region
SAN JOSE, CA–(Marketwired – February 25, 2016) – Tech CU (Technology Credit Union) announced today that it has been inducted into the San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame. The award, which recognizes local businesses who have operated in the Silicon Valley region for more than 50 years, honors longtime and significant contributions to the economy and community.
“We’re honored to have been selected for this award. At Tech CU, we strongly advocate for businesses and the Bay Area community at large, with a particular focus on supporting education initiatives in STEM for K-12, financial literacy, health and wellness, and affordable housing for the area,” said Barbara Kamm, President and CEO of Tech CU.
As Tech CU was founded by members of the technology community, its roots are intertwined with those of some of Silicon Valley’s true pioneers. With its rich history, the company puts innovative solutions for its members as a top priority — providing convenience through a variety of excellent mobile and online services, along with exceptional, personalized service.
Tech CU is also the only credit union among eight lenders in the region to participate in the first-ever affordable housing loan pool created by Housing Trust Silicon Valley. This $9 million fund provides from $500,000 to $2 million in initial startup financing to developers working on affordable, multi-family housing projects throughout the Bay Area.
Since 2007, Tech CU has donated more than $1.2 million to a variety of deserving organizations. Recent efforts include supporting KARTMA, a social enterprise that aims to end homelessness by creating living wage jobs for those who are or were formerly homeless; a Community Grant Challenge where Tech CU members cast votes to provide grants to three SF-based nonprofits; and a partnership with WANDA (Women’s Achievement Network and Development Alliance) to support financial literacy programs for single mothers in the San Francisco Bay Area.
In addition, Tech CU has actively supported legislation that helps the local economy, such as Senate Bill 850, aimed at helping meet Silicon Valley’s workforce development needs by allowing up to 15 community colleges to launch bachelor degree programs in vocational fields. This was signed into law in September 2015.
