Public to Vote for $10,000 Winner of Tech CU Community Grant Challenge
Full Circle Fund, Glide Memorial and New Door Ventures Will Vie for Top Votes, With $15,000 in Total Community Grants Available
SAN JOSE, CA–(Marketwired – Sep 10, 2015) – Beginning September 14, three San Francisco nonprofits will vie to be the top vote getter and recipient of a $10,000 community grant from Tech CU (Technology Credit Union). The Tech CU Community Grant Challenge will run through September 23 as part of the credit union’s grand opening celebration for its newest branch, located at 1449 Mission Street in San Francisco, near Twitter and Square. Tech CU will also award $3,000 and $2,000 for second and third places respectively.
Nominees for the Community Grant Challenge are:
- Full Circle Fund. Full Circle Fund leverages the time, talent and connections of its network of professionals to help nonprofits launch new initiatives, make a greater impact and accelerate community change in the areas of health, environment and energy, education, and economic opportunity. Since 2000, they have raised more than $11 million toward their mission, helped more than 100 organizations and donated more than 90,000 service hours.
- GLIDE Memorial. A long-established San Francisco institution, Glide Memorial’s programs have helped countless individuals battle hunger, poverty, homelessness and debilitating health challenges. Regardless of race, class, gender, age or sexual orientation, the organization reaches out to those most in need. Recently, GLIDE Health Services was recognized as a model for national healthcare. Glide also opened its third permanent supportive housing development on Mason Street.
- New Door Ventures. New Door Ventures has helped thousands of disconnected youth prepare for work and life by providing job internships through local business partners, as well as supportive case management. These internships give kids the education and work skills, confidence, and opportunity they need to create true change in their lives. Annually, the organization provides more than 180 paid internships and serves over 300 youth.
“We’re excited to get people engaged with this challenge,” said Janikke Klem, vice president of community and government relations for the credit union. “Tech CU has been serving members in San Francisco and giving back to the City for decades. In fact, since 2007 we’ve invested more than $1 million in local organizations throughout the Bay Area. With the opening of our new branch in San Francisco, we wanted to do something special that would highlight the great work our partners are doing.”
To qualify for one of the three community grants, each organization must receive at least 500 votes. Anyone can cast a vote for his or her organization of choice at www.techcu.com/SFChallenge. If an individual votes on site at the 1449 Mission street location, their vote will count for ten votes rather than one. And, the voter will be entered in a raffle to win a $1,000 gift card.
Voting ends on September 23 at 4:00 p.m., after which Tech CU will hold a gathering in the branch to announce results and award the grants.
Tech CU partners with local organizations throughout the Bay Area that support STEM education (science, technology, engineering and math), financial literacy, affordable housing, and health and wellness. For more information, go to: www.techcu.com/community.
