Wirecard Czechs out O2 for mPOS action
Wirecard is working with O2 Czech Republic to offer a unified payments solution to retailers in the country.
O2, as the “largest” telecom provider in the Czech Republic, will offer merchants “eKasa” – an online tablet-based fiscal till system together with credit card payment transaction services.
This year, a new till system law has been implemented in the Czech Republic requiring retailers to conclude payment transactions online. Payment details are then forwarded to the national tax office where they are reviewed in order to avoid tax fraud.
Roland Toch, MD at Wirecard CEE, says the new combination “enables retailers to benefit from powerful payment management features as they can simply repurpose a tablet to a new checkout device”.
Within this co-operation, Wirecard will act as the acquirer that processes all payment transactions, as well as the technical service provider which enables O2 to use Wirecard’s mPOS Software Developing Kit (SDK).
Subsequently, O2 will offer its customers eKasa that includes a card reader which provides merchants with chip and PIN mobile card acceptance. The companies are pitching their offering as an “alternative” to fixed till systems.
