Uruguay’s dLocal lands API licence from FCA, paving the way for UK expansion
Uruguay-based payments company dLocal has been granted an Authorised Payment Institution (API) licence by the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to enable the firm to expand its service offerings to UK merchants.
Since its founding in 2016, dLocal has focused on providing payment processing solutions for merchants in emerging markets, specifically in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
The new licence enables dLocal to provide its payment services in the UK, including cross-border transactions and pay-ins and payouts for merchants.
The company also says that UK-based merchants will be able to “expand their international reach” through its localised payment solutions, which offer over 900 alternative payment methods (APMs).
In addition, the paytech reveals it has been chosen by the International Chamber of Commerce UK (ICC) to be a partner in its Trade for Prosperity programme, which aims to support British businesses in expanding into new markets.
The announcement of dLocal’s new licence comes just a few weeks after Reuters reported that the company is exploring a potential sale.
According to the report, dLocal has engaged Morgan Stanley to explore potential acquisition opportunities. The company, publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) since 2021, is currently valued at around $3.27 billion.
