Funding Circle names Ken Stannard as non-executive director and chair designate
SME lending platform Funding Circle has appointed former Capital One exec Ken Stannard as non-executive director and chair designate.
Stannard will be appointed as a member of the company’s Nomination and Remuneration Committees on 1 January.
He will succeed Andrew Learoyd, who has served as chair of Funding Circle since May 2016, following the company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in May 2025, when he will also officially become chair of the Nomination Committee.
Stannard brings almost 30 years of experience in credit, lending and payments to these positions, having previously headed European service centres for American Express, UK credit card operations for Capital One, and credit cards and consumer banking for Lloyds Banking Group.
Funding Circle marks the fourth non-executive director role held by Stannard, who also chairs the boards of Castle Trust Bank and analytics provider Viewture, among others.
Speaking on his latest appointment, Stannard says he plans to work with Funding Circle’s executive team to “drive forward the Group’s strategy”.
This year, that strategy has included a £15 million cost savings drive, which saw the loss of 120 jobs in June, as well as the £33 million sale of its US business to Florida-based iBusiness Funding later the same month.
In conjunction with announcing Stannard’s appointment, Funding Circle has also confirmed the departure of independent non-executive director Matthew King from the board, effective 31 December 2024.
