Lithuanian fintech Paytend hires Thibault Verbiest as new chairman
Thibault Verbiest has been appointed as the new chairman of Lithuania-based electronic money institution (EMI) Paytend.
A World Bank advisor, Verbiest writes on LinkedIn that he will “oversee the strategic direction and governance of the company” as part of his latest appointment.
“My role involves guiding the executive team, fostering key partnerships, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards to drive sustainable growth and global expansion in the digital payments and fintech sectors,” he adds.
Paytend first arrived in Europe in 2018 as part of the continental expansion of Chinese fintech Paytend Technology after the company was granted an EMI licence by the Bank of Lithuania.
Led by CEO Laimonas Žmuidinavičius, the company provides IBAN accounts, mobile softPOS solutions, international transfers via SEPA and Swift, and issuing and acquiring services to 300,000 customers throughout the European Economic Area (EEA).
Versed in both fintech and regulatory law, Paytend’s new chairman brings over 30 years of experience to the position, having previously co-founded social payments platform PayFoot in 2021 and served as an advisory board member to financial services and blockchain solutions company Diginex.
“In addition to this exciting new chapter, I remain dedicated to my legal practice at the Paris and Brussels Bars, where I continue to assist clients in the tech and fintech sectors,” Verbiest writes in a post on LinkedIn.
“This dual expertise allows me to address both strategic and legal challenges in these rapidly growing industries.”
