Dutch payments firm MultiSafepay acquired by Ant International
China’s Ant International has acquired Dutch payments firm MultiSafepay and will integrate the company with its payments and digitisation solutions unit Antom.
News that the financial services giant was interested in acquiring the Dutch firm initially broke back in January, with Reuters reporting at the time that the deal would value MultiSafepay at $200 million. Financial details of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
In a joint statement, Antom and Multisafepay state that the proposed integration between the two is aimed at promoting “convenient, secure and accessible payment solutions and digitalisation services to businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Europe”.
Through this new collaboration, MultiSafepay says it will utilise Antom’s technology and digital capabilities to enhance its product offerings and expand its “SME merchant coverage in the region”.
Operating since 1999, MultiSafepay says it specialises in “simplifying payments for SME businesses”, serving over 18,000 such enterprises. The Dutch payments firm provides merchants with a range of omnichannel payment solutions, including buy now, pay later (BNPL) services, internet banking, cards, e-wallets, and more.
Speaking on the acquisition, Olaf Geurs, CEO of MultiSafepay, says: “The entrepreneurial spirit never sleeps, which is why we’re partnering with Antom to unlock even greater growth potential for MultiSafepay’s products and services, attracting even more businesses to our ecosystem.”
