Shift4 snaps up majority stake in German POS firm Vectron Systems AG
US-based payment processing firm Shift4 has acquired a majority stake in Vectron Systems AG, claimed to be one of Europe’s largest suppliers of point-of-sale (POS) systems for the hospitality sector.
With the acquisition, Shift4 will gain access to Vectron’s extensive European distribution network, comprising 300 POS resellers and 65,000 POS locations across the continent. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
According to the buyer, this network represents a “€25 billion in volume opportunity with minimal payment monetisation today”.
Moreover, Shift4 states it intends to purchase “additional ownership of Vectron” through a public tender offer expected to conclude within the next month.
Jared Isaacman, CEO of Shift4, says that Vectron will provide “valuable local expertise, infrastructure, and the distribution necessary to meet the demand”.
“This acquisition is right out of the Shift4 playbook – enabling us to unlock synergies, expand our distribution, and monetise payments for a large existing install base.”
In addition to the news of its deal with Vectron, Shift4 has also announced the completion of its previously announced acquisition of Revel Systems, a POS software provider to retailers and restaurants across the US.
Headquartered in Pennsylvania, Shift4’s recent acquisitions come amid speculation that the company is exploring a sale. According to a March report by Reuters, the potential sale is attracting interest from fintech giant Fiserv and Spain’s Amadeus IT Group.
