UK challenger Tandem appoints former JP Morgan exec Maria Khan as director of product and digital
UK digital bank Tandem has named JP Morgan alumni Maria Khan as its new director of product and digital.
In line with her appointment, the bank says Khan will work to develop and cultivate “green digital banking solutions”.
Founded in 2014 as one of the UK’s first challenger banks, Tandem provides lending and saving products that are combined with climate-focused initiatives to, as the bank says, “make it easier for more people to choose a greener lifestyle”.
Khan takes up her London-based post directly from JP Morgan, where as vice president, she worked across its trade and settlement functions since October 2021.
Before this, she also held positions at NatWest Group, and within the business arm of the Royal Bank of Scotland, where she most recently served as “digital product owner”.
Alex Mollart, CEO of Tandem, describes Khan’s digital product development experience as “essential” to its endeavour to “update and grow our offering…to allow customers more choice in living a greener lifestyle”.
Tandem’s track record of developing digital products is expected to keep Khan on her feet. Last year alone, the bank acquired the social money-sharing app Loop and co-launched the wealth management app, Prosper, all under the guise of further establishing its stance in digital, sustainable finance.
It’s expected to increase its marketing of this stance with the appointment of former Santander head Chris Parker to the position of head of marketing, joining Khan as the bank’s latest newcomers.
Commenting on her appointment, Khan says the growing preference of customers to understand how their money intersects sustainability and digital represents “a huge opportunity for the bank”.
“As customers pivot to caring more and more about where their money is going regarding sustainability and have rising expectations of leading tech and products to help them navigate their financial needs, the opportunity to have an impact and help grow Tandem is exciting.”
