Synchrony hires former Santander exec Pierre Habis to lead consumer banking
Connecticut-headquartered financial services firm Synchrony has appointed former Santander exec Pierre Habis as the new general manager and head of its consumer banking business.
Confirming the appointment via LinkedIn, Habis says he has been tasked “to lead the charge to grow the bank”, effective from this month.
Leveraging 35 years of experience in finance and consumer banking to fulfil this remit, Habis joins the firm from Santander, where he most recently served as chief consumer banking and digital transformation officer.
Habis spent much of his early career at Wells Fargo before later transitioning into the role of head of consumer banking for MUFG Union Bank – a position he retained for almost 12 years.
At MUFG Union Bank, Habis’ efforts were best noted through the founding and leadership of its hybrid digital banking offering, PurePoint Financial, which launched in early 2017. The offering and parent bank were ultimately snapped up by US Bank in September 2021 for $8 billion.
Habis’ new employer, Synchrony, operates a product comparison marketplace alongside a consumer-facing product suite containing financing solutions, credit and pay later services. His focus will be on leading its banking division, Synchrony Bank, which offers services including Mastercard-issued credit cards and savings and retirement accounts.
