ClearBank names Paul Staples as new group head of embedded banking
ClearBank, a UK-based clearing and embedded banking platform, has appointed Paul Staples as its new group head of embedded banking.
Staples brings two decades of banking and technology expertise to his new role. Prior to joining ClearBank, he worked as a Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) and embedded banking advisor for various private equity and venture capital firms.
He previously held a number of senior roles at HSBC between 2018 and 2023, most recently serving as global head of its BaaS and embedded finance proposition. His early career experience extends to global financial institutions including JP Morgan Chase, Nomura, Deutsche Bank and Goldman Sachs.
Over the course of his career, he has also co-founded a number of technology start-ups across various sectors.
At ClearBank, Staples has been tasked with developing its embedded banking business as it expands into Europe.
ClearBank has also appointed Nick Ford as group head of channels and alliances, where he will lead strategy for the firm to drive indirect channel revenue and forge more partnerships in tandem with its European expansion.
The appointments come just weeks after ClearBank named former Barclays and Starling executive Megan Cooper as its new chief product officer.
