Wealthtech platform Allfunds appoints former Citi exec Antonio Varela as new COO
B2B wealthtech platform Allfunds has appointed Antonio Varela as its new chief operating officer (COO), starting next month.
With a career spanning more than three decades, Varela brings “extensive experience in digital technologies and transformation” to his new role, Allfunds says. He joins the company from Citi, where he spent more than six years as head of global wealth EMEA technology and operations as well as Swiss senior country operations officer.
Prior to that, Varela spent more than 16 years at Credit Suisse in a number of senior positions, including head of private banking technology for the Americas, where he helped drive the group’s cloud adoption initiatives.
His earlier experience includes stints at JP Morgan, where he spent nearly a decade as vice president, as well as Dow Jones and ABN Amro.
Based in Zurich, Switzerland, Varela will report to Juan Alcaraz, CEO of Allfunds, and also join the company’s executive committee. As COO, he will be responsible for leading the company’s operations and information technology departments.
Commenting on the appointment, Alcaraz says: “Technology and operations are key to our platform’s differentiated value and instrumental to our success as a business.
“Antonio’s experience, drive, and deep knowledge of the financial landscape will be instrumental in supporting our strategic vision and ambitions.”
