Edward J. Achtner
Head of the Office of Applied Artificial Intelligence at HSBC
EJ leads HSBC’s Office of Applied Artificial Intelligence (OAAI). The OAAI focuses on the development and commercialisation of cutting-edge, responsible, and ethical AI capabilities and products for the Global Commercial Bank (CMB), Global Bank and Markets (GBM), and other businesses and functions. This includes emerging technologies related to Generative AI and Large Language Models (GAI/LLM).
In addition, the Office collaborates, or leads, on broader HSBC Group Artificial Intelligence initiatives.
Previously, EJ was the Global Head of Wholesale Digital Architecture directing a wide range of strategic initiatives across agile/value stream transformation, business architecture, programme remediation, and technology deployment.
Prior to joining HSBC, EJ spent 15 years at Bank of America where, in his last role, he led its retail banking digital platforms (innovation, mobile, desktop partnerships, and digital design).
John Duigenan
General Manager of Financial Services, Global Industries, IBM Technology
John Duigenan is General Manager of Financial Services and a Distinguished Engineer at IBM Technology. His mission is to accelerate clients’ value creation using IBM Technology, leveraging initiatives and use cases that are strategic and applicable across the global financial services industry.
In his current role, John leads by example as a hands-on technologist. Since joining IBM in 1998 in the UK, he has held technical and business roles spanning the entire product and implementation lifecycle, with extensive development, service and technology leadership. He has led multi-billion-dollar transformation programmes for IBM’s customers.
John is based in New York City and travels globally. He is an Out Executive and active mentor within IBM’s LGBTQ+ community. Additionally, he is a senior member of the Americas Distinguished Engineer Board.
Jonathan Hall
Head of Digital, Commercial & Institutions, NatWest Group
Jonathan leads the digital distribution for the Commercial & Institutions franchise within NatWest Group. The franchise represents more than 50% of Group revenue and profits and consists of four customer segments: Business Banking & International Retail, Commercial & Mid-Market, Large Corporates & Structured Finance, and Financial Institutions. The four segments cover the full range of businesses from start-ups and micro business through to the largest multi-nationals and financial institutions.
Jonathan is accountable for meeting all the segments’ needs through digital distribution channels that include: Business Banking Mobile and Online Bank serving the needs of SMEs; Bankline and Bankline Mobile serving the CMM, CBSF, and FI segments; and Bankline Direct, NatWest Group’s host to host channels. Jonathan is also accountable for channels such as Public Web, Cora (chatbot), web-chat, AutoPay, AutoPay Plus, and TrustAssured.
Jonathan started his career in consulting before moving into financial services with Lloyds Banking Group in 2002, before separating with TSB. He has been at NatWest Group for the last five years.
