Heather Gantt-Evans joins Marqeta as chief information security officer
Marqeta, the California-headquartered card issuing platform, has brought on board US Army Reserves veteran Heather Gantt-Evans to lead it global corporate and product security strategies as chief information security officer (CISO).
Appointed during a pivotal point in the platform’s growth and expansion, Gantt-Evans has been tasked with securing Marqeta’s business operations, payment data and sensitive personally identifiable information (PII) for its employees and customers since joining the company in July.
To achieve this, she is expected to leverage her 15 years of cybersecurity and risk management expertise in her new role of CISO.
She held the same position for her previous company, identity security software provider SailPoint, where between February 2021 and March 2023, she cultivated its cybersecurity strategy and applied remedies to reduce business and product risk.
Prior to this, she served as senior director of security operations and cyber resilience at the US home improvement retail corporation The Home Depot between May 2019 and February 2021, after spending almost five years as a consultant to various Fortune 100 companies with Ernst & Young, which she claims is where her interest in financial services began.
In addition to this, Gantt-Evans also holds a decorated career as an all-source threat intelligence analyst, serving the US Army Reserves between May 2008 and June 2014, a role in which she supported the Air Force Cyber Command with a focus on cyber threat intelligence and cyber fusion operations.
Speaking on her latest appoint, Gantt-Evans says she “immediately saw” Marqeta’s product value and its role in developing “innovative and embedded finance experiences”, as she anticipates leading the development of the company’s security strategies.
Commenting on the appointment, Marqeta’s CTO Randy Kern, describes Gantt-Evans as “an expert security strategist” who will “define and execute transformative strategies to ensure the continued protection of our customers, employees, partners and stakeholders”.
