Amazon set to roll out palm payment processing across all US Whole Foods stores
Amazon’s palm payment technology is set to be deployed in all Whole Foods Market stores across the US by the end of the year.
Amazon One, which was first introduced by Amazon Web Services (AWS) back in 2020, brings a new meaning to contactless, in that it processes payments, identification, loyalty and general entry through a scan of the complex and unique vein network in the user’s hand.
It can also be linked with Amazon’s Prime services, allowing members to take advantage of additional savings throughout the transaction process.
Having been deployed at more than 400 locations across the US, the tech giant has now announced that Whole Foods Market, the popular US supermarket chain, will integrate the technology in all its stores nationwide by the end of the year.
The technology is already available at just under half of the store’s locations across various US states, including in New York, California, Arizona, Texas and Washington, with a continued roll-out expected over the coming months.
The integrations are to be supported by Amazon One’s existing partnerships with major US banks and payment providers, including American Express, Mastercard, Discover and Visa, to enable secure and convenient transaction processing.
