Alexander Weber departs as CGO of German challenger N26
Alexander Weber is to step down as chief growth officer (CGO) of N26 after nine years with the German digital challenger bank.
As one of the bank’s first team members to join back in 2014, the company describes Weber as “an important driving force behind many of the company’s biggest milestones”.
For N26, this includes the launch of its digital bank accounts in 2015, obtaining its German banking licence from the European Central Bank in 2016 and its continued expansion into 24 markets globally to reach 8 million customers.
N26 says that Weber will continue to work closely with the bank’s senior management team to see through the transition of his duties while it searches for a successor.
His departure will hand leadership of the bank’s global marketing team over to its VP of brand marketing, activation and content, Carine van der Heijden.
In the interim, Van der Heijden will be assisted in this responsibility by Kertu-Liina Lehismae, director of digital marketing and global media, as part of a planned transition that has been underway over the last couple of months.
According to the bank’s announcement, following his departure, Weber is now pursuing his own entrepreneurial journey.
N26 recently cut 71 jobs, or around 4% of its workforce, back in May, saying in a statement at the time that the move was to “sharpen its focus on its most important strategic priorities”.
