Demystify Podcast: Demystifying BaaS in the Middle East with Andrew Sims, nDigital
In this episode of Dave & Dharm Demystify Podcast, our guest is Andrew Sims, co-founder and CEO of nDigital, an integrated Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS), card processing and payments group based out of Bahrain in the Middle East.
Andrew tells us about his history, from the East End of London working in business development for a printing company, to gift carding, setting up one of Europe’s first prepaid card business in 2005, to co-founding Global Processing Services (GPS, now known as Thredd) in Dubai in 2007, before founding nDigital in 2013.
Andrew talks about the structure of nDigital and the companies that sit underneath it, and how the structure enables them to focus on particular aspects of economy-as-a-service.
We ask him about fintech in the Middle East and he helps demystify the importance of fintech to the countries in the GCC as they pursue aggressive economic strategies to diversify away from petro dollars into other segments, such as tourism and clean energy. He explains how COVID helped drive a change in behaviours in the citizens of the GCC countries which has resulted in the rapid adoption of platform-based services and digital payments.
