Ant Group enables Alipay+ mobile wallet integrations in Thailand
Ant Group, which operates cross-border digital payments solution Alipay+, has added mobile wallets from three countries to enable digital payments for tourists in Thailand.
The three new mobile wallets include Alipay HK of Hong Kong SAR, Kakao Pay of South Korea, and Touch ‘n Go eWallet of Malaysia, along with Alipay of mainland China, which has been accepted in Thailand since 2015.
In an expanded partnership with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Alipay+ will not only facilitate payments and transactions made by mobile wallets in Thailand, it will also provide its digital solutions to Thai businesses, including digitalisation of business operations and customer experience enhancement.
As part of the partnership, Thailand’s flag carrier Thai Airways will become one of the first airlines to integrate Alipay+ as a payment method.
Cherry Huang, general manager of Alipay+ offline merchant services at Ant Group, says the company’s focus will now be to onboard more local merchants to integrate the Alipay+ solution, in sectors including travel, retail, hospitality, and food and beverage.
Ant Group is the owner and operator of Alipay, a digital payment platform in China. It introduced Alipay+ in 2020, which provides global cross-border mobile payments for businesses, with a presence in a number of Asian countries.
