Paytech GoCardless hires former Mastercard exec Paul Stoddart as president
London-based fintech GoCardless has appointed Paul Stoddart as president.
Stoddart joins from Mastercard where he was president of its new payment platforms, executive chairman of Mastercard-acquired Vocalink and a member of the Mastercard management committee.
In his new role at GoCardless, he will oversee the company’s strategy, sales, product, marketing and customer teams with a view to accelerate growth and expand globally.
In his previous role at Mastercard, he led the establishment and growth of a business unit that expanded the company’s role in payments beyond cards to account-to-account (A2A) payments.
Before Vocalink, he was co-head of corporate finance at Barclaycard, and has also spent ten years at NatWest in senior roles, including in their merchant acquiring and e-commerce business, Worldpay.
With the new appointment, GoCardless plans to build out its suite of payment intelligence products to help businesses manage their payments effectively.
The firm says that Stoddart’s experience will be of benefit as it “doubles down on A2A payments”. It has plans to release its variable recurring payment feature shortly in the UK, and expand instant bank pay – its solution for one-off bank payments – across Europe.
In February 2022, GoCardless joined the unicorn club after securing $312 million in a Series G funding round at a valuation of $2.1 billion.
