31 banks and credit unions in Australia to get Apple Pay
Cuscal, a major payments provider to Australia’s credit unions and banks, has signed a deal with Apple to bring Apple Pay to its customers. The service will be available to nearly four million Australians that bank with 31 entities (which work with Cuscal).
These include Credit Union Australia (CUA), Bank of Sydney, Horizon Credit Union, Police Bank, Teachers’ Mutual Bank, People’s Choice Credit Union and Woolworths Employees’ Credit Union.
To date, ANZ and American Express have been the only providers of Apple Pay services in Australia.
Meanwhile, other banking heavyweights, namely Westpac, National Australia Bank (NAB) and Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), have been resisting Apple Pay. A smaller player, Bendigo and Adelaide Bank, is also part of this opposition. The bone of contention has been mainly centred on the commission Apple is to receive from each Apple Pay transaction.
