ING appoints Swift exec Debbie Janeczek as new chief information security officer
Dutch banking heavyweight ING has named Debbie Janeczek as its new chief information security officer (CISO), effective 13 January 2025.
Janeczek joins ING from the global financial messaging service Swift, where she has served as chief security officer (CSO) since August 2023.
Before her tenure at Swift, she acted as SVP and technology executive at Wells Fargo, overseeing the company-wide cyber threat management strategy.
Moreover, her previous experience includes roles at American Express as director of cyber threat intelligence and various government security positions, including cyber planner at the National Security Agency.
According to an ING statement: “This experience makes her an excellent fit as our new CISO, where she will focus on keeping the bank secure and safeguard our customers’ trust.”
Janeczek will report directly to Daniele Tonella, ING’s global chief technology officer, who joined the bank from UniCredit earlier this year.
She replaces Henrik van Bruggen, who has been serving as ING’s global CISO ad interim, while also acting as global head of tech strategy and enterprise architecture, since August.
Janeczek’s hiring adds to a series of senior leadership changes at ING, which alongside Tonella’s arrival, includes the October appointment of former Santander executive Alexandra MacMahon as the new country manager for ING’s wholesale business in the UK.
