Thunes hires Peter Cohen to lead compliance
Thunes, a Singapore-headquartered payments network, has hired former Worldpay exec Peter Cohen as its new chief compliance officer (CCO), effective immediately.
Cohen, reporting to the firm’s general counsel Ruwan De Soyza, has been tasked with enhancing Thunes’ Fortress Compliance platform and supporting the network’s “next phase of growth”.
The incoming CCO brings over 20 years of experience in payments to the role, with Floris de Kort, Thunes’ CEO, expressing confidence that his expertise will “reinforce our efforts to offer secure and seamless payment solutions globally” to the benefit of members’ cross-border capabilities.
Kort, who joined Thunes in January, is familiar with Cohen’s capabilities from their time working together at US-based Xplor Technologies between 2020 and 2023.
During this period, Kort served as CEO and Cohen as SVP of enterprise risk and regulatory compliance. Xplor Technologies claims to have built the first global platform integrating Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) with embedded payments.
Further down Cohen’s resume are roles at Triodos Bank, European Merchant Services, and Worldpay, where he acted as its compliance director for Europe.
Founded in 2016, Thunes enables payments in 80 currencies across 133 countries, utilising over 320 payment methods and connecting to more than seven billion mobile wallets and bank accounts globally.
In July, Thunes welcomed Sigrid Hulsebosch as its new CFO. She, like Cohen, has a background at Worldpay, having previously served as the firm’s CFO.
