Simmons First National Corporation CEO Bob Fehlman to retire this year
Bob Fehlman will retire as CEO of US-based Simmons First National Corporation and its flagship institution, Simmons Bank, to “focus on personal interests and family medical issues”.
Fehlman has served as Simmons’ controller, COO, treasurer, CFO and president since joining the corporation in 1988.
He was appointed as CEO in January 2023, and will retain the position until the end of this year, before taking on an advisory role in Q1 2025.
As of 1 January 2025, George Makris Jr will return as chairman and CEO of the corporation and its banking subsidiary, having previously held these positions from 2014 to 2022.
In addition, the bank has appointed Chris Van Steenberg as its new COO, starting 12 November, with reporting duties to Simmons’ president, Jay Brogdon.
With more than 25 years in financial services, Van Steenberg most recently held the position of EVP and chief digital and product officer at Tennessee’s First Horizon Bank. He also has senior leadership experience at Citizens Bank, Mastercard Worldwide and First Tennessee Bank.
