Garanti BBVA launches new e-commerce payments platform TAMi
Turkish bank Garanti BBVA has unveiled a new digital payments platform called TAMi aimed at “simplifying online transactions for businesses and consumers”.
Based on the bank’s existing tech infrastructure, TAMi offers a multi-bank point of sale (POS) system and prepaid cards as its two main products.
E-commerce businesses of any size will be able to use the POS system to process and track transactions from multiple banks and offer customers the ability to pay in instalments through these banks.
In conjunction with this, the bank says TAMi’s prepaid cards are intended to enable “individuals who are outside the traditional banking system” to complete online purchases without the need for a credit card. The cards can be topped up through a bank account.
Ceren Acer Kezik, Garanti BBVA’s executive vice president, describes the new service as “a comprehensive, easy-to-use infrastructure” offering payment technologies “to support e-commerce businesses and their customers”.
TAMi is hosted through the bank’s payment solutions subsidiary, Garanti Payment and Electronic Money Service Inc, which received an operating licence from the Turkish central bank back in February. Beta testing of the service commenced the following month.
The news comes after Garanti BBVA’s trade and commodity finance subsidiary, Garanti BBVA International (GBI), announced a partnership with French paytech Worldline for instant payment solutions this week.
The cloud-based solution will allow GBI to send and receive instant payments and ensure its compliance with the EU’s upcoming Instant Payments Regulation.
