Italy’s Banca Sella becomes first European bank to launch QR code for the visually impaired
Banca Sella, an Italian banking group with a network of over 300 branches, has become the first bank in Europe to implement TQ Braille, a tactile identification tool developed by Arti Grafiche Parini, a printing services company based in Northwestern Italy.
Beginning this month, Banca Sella will roll out printed materials compatible with TQ Braille technology, incorporating a QR code into a Braille-embossed frame.
This code directs users to a web page or document that is accessible via screen reader systems like iOS’s VoiceOver and Android’s TalkBack, enabling audio playback of the content.
Supported by UICI, Italy’s association for the visually impaired, this initiative aligns with Sella Group’s “Make an Impact” plan, aiming to make products, services and other key information fully accessible.
The Italian bank is part of a growing movement among financial institutions and fintechs to meet the needs of visually impaired populations, exemplified by Brazilian challenger Parabank’s plan to introduce physical cards with Braille and tactile functionalities.
