Furness Building Society selects Backbase for digital banking overhaul
Furness Building Society, based in Cumbria, UK, has chosen Dutch digital banking solutions vendor Backbase to enhance its digital offerings for members.
Through this new collaboration, Furness aims to replace its legacy channel solution with a modern “enhanced digital offering” powered by Backbase.
The building society, managing around £1.3 billion in total assets as of 2023, plans to deploy the Backbase Engagement Banking platform to support its mission of serving members who may not live near a branch but “still want to be part of a member-driven Society”.
Furness has opted to integrate the entire Backbase platform, including Digital Onboarding, Digital Assist, and Digital Banking solutions, covering the full “member lifecycle”.
Furness, which was founded in 1865 and operates nine branches across the North West of England, is claimed to be the first building society in the country to partner with the Dutch vendor.
In addition to its digital transformation, the building society has revealed plans to redesign its branches as community social hubs, aiming to maintain its local presence and support members who prefer “traditional face-to-face interactions”.
Furness joins an expanding group of 120 financial institutions worldwide leveraging Backbase’s Engagement Banking solution, alongside Malaysia’s Bank Muamalat, Danske Bank, and, more recently, OneAZ Credit Union in Arizona.
