Dutch paytech Online Payment Platform secures EMI licence in the UK
Online Payment Platform (OPP), a Netherlands-based company providing a suite of payment capabilities to marketplaces and platforms across Europe, has secured an electronic money institution (EMI) licence from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the UK.
OPP says it will leverage the new licence to expand its capabilities “to facilitate C2C, B2C and B2B payments for platforms and marketplaces in the UK”.
The company adds that the new licence “now allows OPP to offer a wallet solution” for businesses to help firms in both mainland Europe and the UK boost their cross-border payment capabilities and “navigate the complexities of international expansion”.
Founded in 2011 and launched two years later, OPP’s payments offering includes services such as multi-split payments, dispute handling, automated mediation and an escrow solution.
OPP will now add what commercial director Steve Lavington describes as “a much-demanded wallet solution” to this mix, enabling clients to receive and store funds for future purchases.
In addition to its office in London, where it employs a team of over 100 staff, OPP also has offices in Berlin, Germany, and Delft, in its native market of the Netherlands.
Maurice Jongmans, non-executive board member of OPP, adds that the paytech is “fully focused and committed to helping our partners maximise their potential with payment solutions designed to cater to the needs and dynamics that are specific to platforms, marketplaces and trading merchants and consumers”.
Earlier this month, OPP collaborated with Worldline, which acquired a 40% stake in the paytech in 2022, to launch a new embedded payments solution.
The company says the solution combines OPP’s technology with Worldline’s acquiring, acceptance and point-of-sale (POS) capabilities to provide a “complete, turnkey solution that not only helps their users sign-up, sell, and get paid fast, but also manage this across multiple currencies”.
