Zambian fintech Lupiya partners Network International for debit card programme
Lupiya, an online lender headquartered in Lusaka, Zambia, has tapped UAE-based paytech Network International to launch a new debit card programme.
The fintech is leveraging Network International’s Payments-as-a-Service (PaaS) and processing solutions to power its new debit card offering as it looks to diversify its value proposition with digital payments.
Since 2016, Lupiya’s remit has largely focused on fixed-term, low-interest microloans, with the platform applying machine learning models and alternative data sources to extend its lending to Zambia’s financially excluded.
As the company’s new digital payments technology partner, Network International says its “comprehensive suite of card payment processing solutions” will be utilised to “cover the entire lifecycle of a card payment, from issuance to settlement and even dispute resolution, with a focus on both digital and physical payment channels”.
Speaking on the partnership, Muchu Kaingu, co-founder and CTO of Lupiya, says: “By launching an e-commerce enabled debit card with 3D Secure and tokenisation, we are empowering individuals and businesses to participate in the digital economy more effectively.”
Lupiya joins a growing list of clients adopting Network International’s payment solutions across Africa. In July, Diamond Trust Bank in Kenya partnered with the company to host and process debit, credit and prepaid cards.
