MoneyGram names Josh Gordon-Blake as new chief digital officer
Texas-based paytech MoneyGram has appointed Josh Gordon-Blake as its new chief digital officer (CDO).
Gordon-Blake, who will report directly to MoneyGram chairman and CEO Alex Holmes, is taking over from Seth Ross, who began the role just last April.
Ross announced his departure on LinkedIn two months ago, stating his plans to take “some time off over the summer to spend with my family and recharge”, during which period he also intends to advise a few “promising startups” and work on “giving back to the local LA FinTech community”.
In his new position, Gordon-Blake has been tasked with spearheading the firm’s digital strategy with a specific focus on the “growth and global expansion” of its website and mobile app, MoneyGram Online (MGO).
MGO, which claims to serve millions of consumers globally through a payment network with over 5 billion digital endpoints and 440,000 retail locations, allows users to pay bills online and trade cryptocurrencies.
Gordon-Blake is expected to oversee all aspects of the MGO platform, from cryptocurrency integration and core remittance to new product launches.
With market expansion and scalability at the forefront of MoneyGram’s agenda, the new CDO will also drive “initiatives to accelerate customer acquisition, elevate customer experience and build long-term loyalty”, according to a company statement.
Speaking on Gordon-Blake’s appointment, Holmes states the paytech plans to leverage his “breadth of experience to fast-track the growth of our modern fintech platform and suite of digital products and services”.
Gordon-Blake comes to MoneyGram from Pangea, the Chicago-headquartered digital money transfer firm he co-founded and led as COO. Under his leadership, Pangea was acquired by Enova International in 2021.
Over the past 12 months, MoneyGram has been busy adding to its executive team, including the appointment of Edwina Johnson as GM for MoneyGram Online International in October and Gary Ferrera as CFO in June.
