Estonia’s Montonio triggers leadership change with Johan Nord rising to CEO
Estonian start-up Montonio has promoted Johan Nord to the position of CEO amid a “rapidly growing” merchant base and product suite.
Launched three years ago, the Montonio platform supports a range of payment and e-commerce solutions for merchants, including refunds, shipping, payment links and pay later functionalities.
Nord initially joined the company in March this year, when he was appointed as chief revenue officer.
Prior to this, he spent over three years working for Société Générale’s corporate and investment banking (CIB) division, before taking charge of commercial leadership at open banking firm Trustly for a further eight years.
He now takes the reins of Montonio from Markus Lember, who has served the position since co-founding the company in 2018.
Lember is to transition to the role of chief strategy officer, where he will focus on “vision, corporate and product strategy, and strategic commercial partnerships”.
The start-up says the new CEO “will be instrumental in driving Montonio’s expansion and enhancing its strategic partnerships, particularly across its core markets”.
Commenting on the company’s next phase, Nord says: “Our focus will be on growth and delivering great value to primarily Baltic and Polish merchants with our combined offering of payments, shipping, and merchant software to achieve sustainable profitability”.
Since its €11 million Series A back in April 2022, Montonio has worked to further its market reach and currently serves over 6,000 online stores across Poland, Germany, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Finland.
It also claims to have enhanced its product remit with Apple Pay, Google Pay and BLIK integrations, automating refund capabilities, and partnerships with Venipak, Coop Pank and Inbank.
