Simona Covaliu appointed new CRO of PayU GPO
PayU GPO, the online payment service provider based in the Netherlands, has named risk veteran Simona Covaliu as its new chief risk officer (CRO).
In her new position, Covaliu has been tasked with leading PayU GPO’s second line compliance, risk, privacy and security teams.
PayU GPO emphasises the necessity of appointing Covaliu to oversee its various units, citing that with the firm’s extensive operations, “increased synergies within the risk team will be essential to ensure a continued smooth roadmap of product development and implementation”.
Speaking on the firm’s latest appointment, Daniel Cohen, CEO at PayU GPO, says Covaliu’s “breadth of experience working closely with regulators, together with her deep understanding of the fintech landscape makes her an incredible, strategic addition to the PayU GPO leadership team”.
Covaliu joins PayU GPO with a notable resume, having worked at several industry-leading companies. She served as chief risk and compliance officer at Uber Payments, senior risk manager at Booking.com, and most recently, VP of risk and compliance at Mambu.
PayU GPO boasts the deployment of over 400 payment methods and PCI-certified platforms, handling around 10 million payments daily.
Last year, the paytech was acquired by London-based fintech-as-a-service provider Rapyd from Dutch consumer internet group Prosus for $610 million. Prosus explained that the sale would allow PayU to concentrate on “the large payments and fintech opportunity” in the Indian market.
