Former Affirm VP Sibongile Ngako joins US fintech Brex as chief compliance officer
Sibongile Ngako has been named as the new chief compliance officer (CCO) of US-based expense management platform Brex, succeeding Jason Brown, who has maintained the position since January.
Ngako joins the position from Affirm, a buy now, pay later (BNPL) provider, for which she developed and implemented a compliance management system during her three-year tenure there as vice president of compliance.
Prior to this, she spent nearly a decade at American Express, where among a variety of compliance and operational roles, she most recently served as vice president of US consumer operational excellence.
Ngako will commence her tenure at Brex alongside her current standing as an advisory board member for FinRegLab, a non-profit organisation said to be “promoting the safe and intelligent use of technology and data in financial services and shaping industry best practices and regulatory frameworks”.
Brex, a corporate card start-up turned AI-powered spend and expense management platform valued at over $12 billion at the start of 2022, axed 20% of its workforce in January this year, on top of the 11% chop in October 2022.
