Canadian fintech Zafin appoints Michael Nitsopoulos as new CPO
Zafin, a provider of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) core modernisation and transformation solutions for banks headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, has named Michael Nitsopoulos as its new chief product officer (CPO).
Nitsopoulos brings over 23 years of experience to the role and joins from US financial services giant PNC, where he served as senior vice president and engineering director of retail banking technology for over five years, leading its architecture, strategy, and innovation team of over 1,000 technologists and driving its strategic tech transformation programme.
Prior to joining PNC, he also held senior product and technology roles at IBM Canada and TD Bank.
In his new position, Nitsopoulos will now look to leverage this experience to lead Zafin’s product strategy and “enhance and expand Zafin’s suite of solutions”, the company says.
Speaking on his appointment, Nitsopoulos says that the banking industry “is undergoing rapid transformation”, and his focus will be on developing scalable solutions that “address the complex challenges faced by our customers”.
The company, which counts the likes of ING, CIBC, HSBC, Wells Fargo, and Nitsopoulos’ former employer PNC as customers, says its SaaS platform helps banks “accelerate the time to market for new products” and “enables business users to work collaboratively to design and manage pricing, products, and packages, while technologists streamline core banking systems”.
Nitsopoulos’ appointment comes just a few weeks after Zafin announced that company founder Al Karim Somji was stepping down as CEO after more than two decades in the role, with former IBM exec Charbel Safadi taking the reins with immediate effect.
Earlier this year, Zafin was acquired by private equity firm Nordic Capital for an undisclosed sum.
