Saudi Arabian paytech Geidea names Abdulrahman Almutairi as new group CTO
Geidea, a payment service provider based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has appointed former STC Pay head Abdulrahman Almutairi as its new group CTO.
The paytech has tasked its new group CTO with “enhancing our technology landscape” amid its ongoing digital transformation.
Almutairi brings over 20 years of experience across technology and financial services to his new role at Geidea, making him “perfectly positioned to lead our tech initiatives into the future”, according to Geidea.
Almutairi previously served as CTO for STC Pay, the mobile financial services arm of Saudi Telecom Company, for nearly five years.
During this time, he claims to have established the unit’s “modern enterprise architecture focusing on channels, integration, core banking, and 40+ digital platforms” and “co-lead strategic initiative for obtaining digital banking license”.
His new employer was founded in 2008 by Abdullah Faisal Al-Othman, and provides merchants with a comprehensive platform to manage sales, inventory and online orders.
The company also offers a range of payment services, including point-of-sale (POS) terminals, business management solutions, and other digital banking technologies.
Geidea claims to serve over 150,000 merchants and provide more than 700,000 payment terminals across the GCC region.
Almutairi joins a wave of recent CTO appointments in the fintech sector, including Suavek Zajac, former head of Railsr, at UK challenger bank Tandem; Céline Bayer at France’s Lemonway; and Amanda Butler, who has become the first CTO at Minneapolis-based Nepsis.
