Banking Circle appoints Johan Bergqvist as new group CFO
Former Bolt chief Johan Bergqvist has been unveiled as the new group CFO of financial infrastructure provider Banking Circle, having assumed the position in February.
The Luxembourg-based group, owned by the Swedish investment firm EQT Partners, has appointed Bergqvist to lead its “next phase of sustained, rapid, and profitable growth”. This effort will be conducted in partnership with its management team and co-founders, Anders la Cour and Laust Bertelsen.
Serving a broad selection of clients ranging from online merchants to institutional banks, the group offers solutions for cross-border payments, card issuing, accounts, liquidity management and revenue-based financing, among other services. It reported run-rate revenues of €300 million last year alongside €550 billion in run-rate annual payment volumes.
Commenting on its performance, la Cour says that while the group has “now reached significant scale, we are still early in our growth journey considering the large market white space”.
To satisfy the group’s intended growth trajectory, Bergqvist is expected to leverage his nearly 20 years of industry experience throughout his new remit.
The appointment marks the third time he has performed the duties of group CFO, following on from his tenures at transportation and delivery platform Bolt – where he still maintains the position of board member – and UK-based paytech Teya.
