Nium names Alexandra Johnson as first chief payments officer
B2B payments platform Nium has named former Bank of America exec Alexandra Johnson as its first chief payments officer (CPO).
Heading its global banking and payment operations teams, Johnson will lead the platform’s strategy and routine operations, while also overseeing the expansion and management of its payments network.
Moreover, Nium states that she will work with its risk and compliance units in each market to “enhance frameworks, build new relationships, and build upon the existing strength of the existing financial network”.
Johnson brings extensive executive experience to her new remit, having previously served as the head of new product development and innovation at Bank of America.
Prior to that, she also held the position of executive director at JP Morgan Chase, overseeing global FX product go-to-market, commercialisation and partnerships.
Nium was launched in 2014, initially with a consumer remittance offering. It was known as Instarem. Two years later, the company launched its B2B payments platform and in 2019 it rebranded as Nium. The following year, it raised funding, reportedly worth $75-$100 million, from Visa, Indonesia-based BRI Ventures and existing investors.
With headquarters in both Singapore and San Francisco, Nium provides global payment and card issuance solutions to financial institutions. The platform asserts its capability to facilitate enterprises in making payments in over 100 currencies to more than 190 countries, with 85 of them being processed in real time.
