Spain’s Amadeus looks to streamline travel payments with Voxel acquisition
Madrid-headquartered Amadeus IT Group has acquired Spanish paytech Voxel for an undisclosed sum.
Founded in 1998 and based in Barcelona, Voxel provides electronic invoice and B2B payment solutions for the travel industry through its Bavel platform, which supports payment, billing and procurement processes.
Amadeus says its new purchase will “complement” its existing payments business Outpayce, which provides a similar set of services for the same sector, while also boosting its presence in the hospitality industry as the company looks to “deliver a smooth travel payment experience”.
With the integration, the group is now set to provide a wider set of payments solutions to travel sellers, citing Voxel’s invoice automation capabilities as a key addition to its suite.
The acquisition will also see Voxel’s 200-strong team join Amadeus.
Decius Valmorbida, president of travel at Amadeus, says the purchase has generated “a complementary portfolio of solutions” that leverages “smart technology” to the benefit of the travel industry.
Àngel Garrido, CEO of Voxel, adds that the acquisition provides an opportunity for Voxel and Amadeus “to grow faster” and improve “not only the processes for travel sellers but also travel providers”.
Earlier this month, media reports suggested Amadeus was among the parties interested in acquiring US-based payment processing firm Shift4 Payments. However, the group quickly responded to the claims, stating last week that it is “not interested in this transaction”.
