Innovate Finance launches new council to further growth of UK fintech sector
Independent industry body Innovate Finance has launched the Unicorn Council for UK Fintech (UCFT), a coalition of fintech founders dedicated to growing the UK fintech industry.
The UCFT will be co-chaired by Innovate Finance CEO, Janine Hirt, Charles McManus, CEO of ClearBank and Philip Belamant, CEO of Zilch.
Innovate Finance says the council will be tasked with identifying key issues for UK companies, focusing on improving liquidity, policy and perception for the fintech sector through “amplifying a unified industry voice on the key priorities of CEOs, investors and board members to scale their fintech organisations”.
The UCFT will look to leverage its connections with senior government ministers to further its cause, claiming to be able to provide recommendations to officials as to how “policy interventions can best help” the UK fintech landscape.
“The genesis of the Unicorn Council emerged from a vision Zilch had to forge” a collective voice for fintech leaders to promote “future-proof policies that match the needs of their high-growth businesses”, explains CCO of Zilch, Ryan Mendy.
“Helping ministers make the strategic policy moves that’ll aid catapulting the UK back into the global economic powerhouse it desires to be,” Mendy adds.
In addition, the Startup Coalition’s Unicorn Project for Tech has also been launched, aimed at creating a forum for UK unicorns across all sectors, acting as a “united voice for Britain’s foremost innovators at the highest levels of government and policy-making”, says Innovate Finance.
