Africa and Gulf Bank partners Orion Innovation for Temenos core banking upgrade
Sudan-based Africa and Gulf Bank (AGB) has tasked Orion Innovation, a digital transformation and product development services firm, with the job of upgrading its core banking tech to Temenos’ cloud-based platform.
The integration comes as part of AGB’s existing agreement with Temenos, announced in October last year, to power its digital transformation strategy, with Orion serving as the Swiss core banking vendor’s implementation partner.
Orion says it will oversee the integration of Temenos’ products into AGB’s operations, with hopes of “modernising its product portfolio to bring personalised, digital-first banking solutions to customers”.
It marks a healthy progression of Orion’s expansion beyond its native US market after the firm previously struck a deal with Cebuana Lhuillier Bank in the Philippines last August.
Launched in 2021 after its operational acquisition of a “major” bank in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), AGB offers a range of Sharia-compliant banking and financial services for businesses, corporates and individuals, which were previously run on Path Solutions’ iMAL Islamic core banking system.
Now the bank has opted for the Temenos Transact and Temenos Infinity products to advance its pursuit of digital while seeking to deliver “robust banking services for Sudanese people both at home and in the diaspora”, comments Nadeem Lodhi, CEO of AGB.
“AGB has developed an ambitious roadmap based on innovative retail, digital and wholesale banking products and services which include critical capability enhancements like instant onboarding, automated AI-based approvals, straight-through-processing and digitised workflows,” Lodhi adds.
