Flutterwave makes several new exec appointments focusing on risk, compliance and partnerships
African paytech Flutterwave has announced a number of executive and senior hires in a bid to fuel its global expansion.
Amaresh Mohan joins the company as its first chief risk officer, a role he previously held at Indonesian tech firm GoTo Group.
With a career spanning over 25 years, Mohan has also served in senior leadership positions at Stripe, where he was global head of commercial business risk, and PayPal, where he spent nearly a decade in various risk management roles. His experience also extends to banks including Bank of America, Citibank and Kotak Mahindra Bank.
At Flutterwave, Mohan has been tasked with overseeing all aspects of risk management including compliance, trust and safety, as well as strengthening governance across the company.
Stephen Cheng has been appointed as executive vice president, global expansion and payment partnerships at the company. He brings more than 20 years of experience working for financial institutions and risk and compliance organisations such as American Express, First Data, Green Dot and Prime Trust.
Most recently, Cheng was chief risk and compliance officer and CEO at Wyre. At Flutterwave, he will be responsible for aiding the company’s expansion into new markets globally by acquiring licences and forming strategic payment partnerships.
With more than two decades of banking experience, Amanda Ortega has been appointed as head of compliance, US for Flutterwave, tasked with overseeing its regulatory standards and compliance in North America. Previously, she served as a regulatory, audit and compliance executive for multiple licenced trust companies and money transmitters.
Her career includes 12 years with the state of Wyoming’s division of banking, where she served in various roles including chief bank examiner and deputy banking commissioner.
Additional senior hires include Steven Huynh, who has been named as VP, global expansion and payment partnerships and who has previously held senior risk and compliance roles at Western Union, Sigue and Wyre; Chris Davis, the new VP, risk and compliance operations, who previously worked at Scottrade and Square/Cash App; and Adewale Ayantoye, the new VP, risk management, who previously held a director-level financial crimes operations role at Etsy and a compliance leadership role at Square/Cash App.
