US digital bank Green Dot appoints SVP Dave Harden as new CTO
Texas-based digital bank and fintech Green Dot has named Dave Harden as its new chief technology officer (CTO).
The internal appointment marks the transition of Harden from SVP of product development – a role he has served in since February 2022 – to oversee the development and delivery of Green Dot’s technology platforms.
Prior to Green Dot, Harden served as senior product manager for the asset management firm Bridgewater Associates, and more recently as managing director and head of core banking technology transformation at Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG).
Founded in 1999, Green Dot’s provision of financial services extends to prepaid debit cards, mobile banking solutions, credit, disbursements and money processing services.
It claims to leverage its technology platforms to build products and features that address “the most pressing financial challenges of consumers and businesses”.
Having previously worked on migrating the bank’s cards programme to a cloud-based management platform, Harden will now be tasked with working with Green Dot’s direct bank and Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) partners.
Green Dot most recently partnered with the online digital brokerage Stockpile last month, which is using its BaaS platform to incorporate parental spending controls for minors into its retail investing products.
Speaking on his appointment, Harden says he will attempt to “strengthen our customer relationships and help lead Green Dot through our next phase of evolution”.
Describing the appointment as an “important role” within the company, CEO George Gresham says the bank is currently shifting to “focus on stability and growth”, and expects “proven technology leader and strategist” Harden to “efficiently and effectively” navigate it through this transition.
The appointment follows a definitively transient couple of years for the bank’s leadership after CEO and president Dan Henry was fired last October after a poor stock performance and falling earnings forecasts, installing Gresham in his place.
These events succeeded the departure of Green Dot founder Steve Streit back in December 2019 after 20 years, followed by the resignation of CFO Mark Shifke the same month.
