Edwina Johnson joins MoneyGram as general manager
US paytech MoneyGram has appointed Edwina Johnson as the new general manager for MoneyGram Online International, effective October.
With more than 15 years of professional experience, with several of them spent working in technology start-ups, Johnson joins MoneyGram from Alloy, an identity risk management platform for banks and fintechs, where she worked as chief operating officer (COO) and then head of global for six years.
Prior to that, she spent nearly three years at the fintech accelerator Startupbootcamp FinTech, initially serving as its COO before rising to programme director. Johnson also currently serves as an angel investor at Ada Ventures and Ventures Together.
“MoneyGram are transforming a legacy brand into a digital first business,” Johnson writes in a LinkedIn post, explaining why she made the move. “Launching a non custodial wallet on Stellar highlights how ambitious this team is, not just in meeting but leapfrogging the current status quo.”
Johnson adds that joining the firm is a “personal challenge” for her.
“MoneyGram reaches over 200 countries and territories, moving $200 billion annually with an ability to send money online in nearly 40 countries,” she writes. “Fifty percent of transactions are now digital and my remit is to grow MoneyGram Online outside of the States as fast as possible.”
