Crypto payments firm BCB Group names Oliver Tonkin as new CEO
BCB Group, a UK-based crypto payments service provider, has appointed co-founder Oliver Tonkin as its new CEO, effective immediately.
Tonkin will succeed his fellow BCB Group co-founder Oliver von Landsberg-Sadie, who is leaving the firm to pursue new opportunities.
The pair set up the firm over six years ago, with Tonkin working first as general counsel and then deputy CEO.
Under von Landsberg-Sadie’s leadership, the company raised the UK blockchain industry’s largest ever Series A funding round, bringing in $60 million in January 2022.
In a statement, BCB Group says Tonkin’s “extensive experience within the financial services sector” complements the company’s mission to equip clients with “critical, secure and responsive infrastructure”.
During his 25-year career, Tonkin initially worked as a solicitor and legal counsel, advising clients on M&A, corporate finance transactions and private equity investments for various legal firms. From 2018 to 2020, he also worked as a consultant for Galaxy Digital, a merchant bank focusing on the blockchain and digital industry.
Commenting on his appointment, Tonkin says BCB Group has grown “significantly” since its establishment in 2017.
“As a co-founder, I know only too well that the opportunities for us and our industry are as strong as ever,” he says, adding that as CEO, he plans to help the company scale further.
