Checkout.com appoints Mariano Albera as new chief technology officer
Global payments solution provider Checkout.com has appointed Mariano Albera as its new chief technology officer (CTO).
Albera has been working with Checkout.com for the last three years, serving as senior vice president of engineering. Describing him as a “seasoned technology leader”, Checkout.com says he has made a “significant impact” during his tenure at the firm.
He will replace outgoing CTO Ott Kaukver, who will leave the firm by the end of this year.
With more than 20 years of experience, Albera was previously CTO at Expedia from 2016 to 2019 following stints as CTO at OVO Energy and group chief information officer and CTO for Thomas Cook’s online systems.
In his new role, Albera has been tasked with driving the evolution of Checkout.com’s platform with a focus on offering merchants “high-performance payments”.
Commenting on his promotion, Albera says the company has the opportunity to take advantage of the leaps being made in machine learning and AI to “improve the performance of our customers’ payment operations”.
“Payments is a critical step in online consumer experience, and we want to put all our expertise in making sure our customers perform better in the digital economy by optimising payment methods in each geography,” he adds.
