UK paytech Thredd appoints Jim McCarthy as new CEO
London-based payments platform Thredd has appointed Jim McCarthy as its new CEO effective immediately, replacing Kevin Schultz, who will retire later this year.
Bringing more than three decades of work experience to his new role, Thredd describes McCarthy as “highly accomplished” in the payments sector. He joined Thredd in January this year as executive vice president – global head of product and sales.
Prior to that, he worked as president at i2c, a US-based payments processor, from March 2020 to January 2023. His earlier experience includes more than 18 years at Visa where he held senior roles in sales, risk and authentication, consumer credit, digital products and product innovation. At Visa, he was responsible for the company’s tech and product roadmap, and also contributed to the launch of Apple Pay.
Kevin Schultz, outgoing CEO who joined Thredd in July last year, says that over the last year, the company has “successfully implemented a new strategy and repositioned the company for sustainable growth”.
Thredd, formerly GPS, appointed three independent non-executive directors in February this year, and Ava Kelly as chief product officer this July. Last week, it announced a partnership with Southeast Asia’s BigPay to help power its payment processing capabilities.
