ClearBank designates Jonny Fry as digital assets strategy lead
UK-based clearing and embedded banking platform ClearBank has appointed Jonny Fry as head of the group’s digital assets strategy.
In his new role, Fry will be tasked with developing the bank’s position within the digital assets market, for which it currently provides banking infrastructure – i.e. the fiat on and off ramp – to regulated firms, including Coinbase, with the aim of enhancing interoperability and security of the ecosystem.
Fry holds over 25 years of experience within the finance sector, working in a variety of executive and leadership positions, including for the news and advisory service TeamBlockchain, the Dublin-based investment advisory service GemCap, and the blockchain-powered reporting platform Turn, which services the asset management industry.
Speaking on his appointment, Fry says he will work with the bank to “set the strategy and build the digital tools and infrastructure digital asset companies need to grow”.
He explains that the digitisation of assets like loyalty programmes, equities, funds and derivatives has enabled “huge opportunities” for those providing fiat offerings, and recognises the “growing demand” among regulated firms seeking to make payments in digital assets “faster and more efficient”.
Fry’s appointment is just one in a string of recent hires the bank has made since it received a £175 million investment in March 2022. It named Andrew Barker as its chief revenue officer last September, Mark Fairless as its chief finance officer in January, and former PayPal exec Spiros Theodossiou as its chief product officer in April.
Most recently, its parent company appointed four new non-executive directors in its attempt to trigger plans for an international expansion.
