Jirnexu co-founders step down from leadership positions at the company
Jirnexu co-founders Hann Liew and Lucas Ooi are stepping down from their executive positions at the company.
With Liew and Ooi previously serving as the Malaysian-based fintech’s executive director and corporate development director respectively, Liew confirmed the pair’s decision to “step back from day to day leadership” via a LinkedIn post this week.
Jirnexu was founded in 2012 and was formerly known as Saving Plus. It supports banks, insurance companies and services providers with end-to-end digital acquisition tools and solutions. The company claims itself to be “Asia’s only full stack fintech solutions provider”.
In 2013, the company launched RinggitPlus, a financial comparison website for the Malaysian market, for which Liew and Ooi joined as CEO and director of insurance respectively in 2014.
This was followed by the launch of its sister brand, KreditGoGo, for the Indonesian market a year later, with both companies being managed by Saving Plus.
Then in 2016, Saving Plus underwent a rebrand to become Jirnexu, during which time the company raised $3 million in a Series A led by the Singapore-based venture capital firm DMP. To date, the company has secured $37 million in funding, which includes an additional $11 million Series B led by the Japanese financial services firm SBI Group in 2018.
Having expanded its team from two to 100+ while also withstanding the blow of the pandemic, RinggitPlus is now “operationally profitable” with an annual recurring revenue of RM 50 million ($10.7 million), according to Liew’s post.
“With RinggitPlus now on the firm footing above, Lucas and I felt it was the right time to take a step back from day to day leadership and hand reins over to the executive team,” the post reads.
Jirnexu co-founder Yuen Tuck Siew will continue to serve as group CEO following Liew and Ooi’s departure, being supported by James Barnes as COO, Jack Low as CCO and Khoon Eong Lim as CFO.
Liew and Ooi are to remain on the Jirnexu shareholder register and board, with the post affirming that the pair will “always be founders” and that they are “ready to support SYT and the team in any way that we can”.
Liew’s announcement concluded by hinting at the pair’s future plans, stating “It’s time to get building again”.
