Former Goldman Sachs partner joins Clowd9 as CFO
Former Goldman Sachs partner Christian Channell joins Clowd9 as its chief financial officer (CFO).
Clowd9 is a cloud-native decentralised payment processing platform for traditional banks, neobanks and fintechs. The platform continues to scale following its founding last October by Cosmo Spens, Artur Grabowski, Robert Hampel, Peter Selman and Suresh Vaghjiani, who currently serves as CEO.
Channell joins the platform following a 25 year career as the global head of product control at Goldman Sachs, where he led the transformation of financial information systems.
Entering his new position this month, Channell will oversee Clowd9’s financial planning, accounting and business operations, working closely with Vaghjiani to ensure the platform’s continued growth.
To date, innovation in payments technology has predominantly focused on front-end systems, leaving back-end systems fragmented and lacking global accessibility.
However, Channell holds particular expertise in front-to-back function management, among other areas. For Clowd9’s decentralised cloud-native model, which enables global payment processing via multiple ‘instances’, this knowledge will prove to be advantageous.
“Christian brings experience in financial planning, management and operations at the highest level, as well as an acute understanding of the complexities involved in scaling and operating a business globally,” comments Vaghjiani.
Headquartered in London, Clowd9’s investor base includes both senior financial executives and family offices. It has over 40 full-time employees and is B-Corp certified.
