BBVA to hire over 2,600 technology experts in 2023
Spanish banking giant BBVA has launched a new job portal with the aim to hire over 2,600 technology professionals by the end of 2023, of which 1,000 will be based in Spain.
Of the amount foreseen for 2023, the bank says 1,200 professionals have already joined this year, with 500 of them based in Spain.
“The profiles that we need the most for the engineering area are software developers and data engineers, followed by experts in security, infrastructure and architecture,” explains Pedro Méndez, global head of talent and culture in the engineering area at BBVA.
In the data area, the profiles the bank is looking for are in the fields of data science and artificial intelligence (AI), Méndez adds.
BBVA currently employs approximately 22,000 STEM professionals globally, representing approximately 19% of its total workforce.
Last year, BBVA launched a global software unit, bringing together over 16,000 developers, to accelerate the creation of digital solutions for the bank and their scalability among countries where it operates.
Additionally, BBVA also created two technological hubs in Bilbao to host its BBVA IT and BBVA Next Technologies units – two companies in charge of developing, maintaining and evolving the systems and applications of the bank in Spain and architecture in cloud technologies, security and data.
On the data side, BBVA employs over 3,000 engineering and data science professionals and has opened an AI Factory center in Mexico.
