HSBC names Georges Elhedery as new group CFO
HSBC has appointed Georges Elhedery as group chief financial officer (CFO) and executive director of the board and Greg Guyett as CEO of global banking and markets.
Elhedery will take on his new role from 1 January 2023, replacing Ewen Stevenson, who will be stepping down from the role of group CFO and executive director on 31 December and will leave HSBC in April next year.
The bank says that as it “approaches the end of its three-year transformation programme”, the board has taken the opportunity to “review the composition of the group executive committee with a particular focus on long-term succession planning”.
Elhedery joined HSBC in 2010 and has served in many capacities over the years, most recently as co-CEO of global banking and markets since March 2020 alongside Guyett. The firm has now made the decision to consolidate the leadership of global banking and markets into one role, with Guyett taking the reins.
Commenting on Elhedery’s appointment, Noel Quinn, group chief executive of HSBC, says he has “strong experience of leading a global business and a major geographic region”.
Guyett joined HSBC in 2018 and previously worked at JP Morgan for almost three decades in various roles.
